Mandrake 10 Prob

Recommended Posts

First off I would like to say... wow! Mandrake 10 sure is a leap in the right direction of Windows collapse.

However I do have 2 probs that I really hope you guys could provide a little help on:

1. Mandrake Control Centre doesn't seem to be present, the command 'mcc' isn't accepted :(

2. RPMs don't seem to work at all:

Installing rpm as normal user:

[boogle@localhost Downloads]$ rpm -i amsn-0.90-1.mdk9x.rpm

error: cannot open lock file ///var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK in exclusive mode

error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

Installing rpm as root:

warning: user jasper does not exist - using root

warning: group jasper does not exist - using root

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

error: %post(AMSN-0.90-1) scriptlet failed, exit status 2

The warnings of user/group jasper repeat over and over, this is just the end of the console output :(

Oh one more prob (don't u just love me :|), the NVIDIA drivers complained that there wasn't a kernel interface for my kernel :(

I got that as well...reinstalled and used the generic nVidia drivers that came with MDK10. They seem to work fine for me.

And rpm's wouldn't work for me. In fact, HardDrake seems pretty useless so far with much of anything. Oh, and heaven forbid you try to install something off the cd's. 'Drake will crash out every time.

well this is only the community edition which in fact from my research has quite a few bugs ;-( i'd give it a little bit and wait for the official to come out..

oh as for your nvidia problem thats normal, just have nvidia build a module instead of trying to build it into the kernel

This is very true. The install crashed on me. I did get mandrake 10 installed, and it looks pretty. However it still has the same things that mandrake 9.2 had going on that I didn't like. I will use it as my printer will work with mandrake and not slackware, but I am going to install suse over mandrake 10 and see if that will work any better for me.
