lexor
the setup goes smooth and nice, but when it's finished and I reboot all I get is IceWM (no kde or gnome which I selected) and I can't get them to show up, so I went to package install, put cd in again, tell it to install gnome, kde etc rpms. don't see a change, reboot, still nothing but IceWM and no way of changing anything or switching to gnome or kde. it used to back in 9.1 to ask for manager at login. even mozilla isn't there! though inet i did manage to get working pings fine in lan machine and google. so why isn't software I tell it to install installing, or if it is why is it totally inaccessible? ps. I am in root, so it's not access permissions, and its a cleant install on a brand new hdd. also guys at the end of install do you wait till it reboots by itself? 'couse I waited for like 5min but it did nothing (kept sitting at the last screen) so I just rebooted manually. maybe I should've waited for like 30min? Edited March 14, 2004 by lexor
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 14, 2004 Not sure what's going on, but I would try to boot into init 3, and from the command line try startkde to see what happens.
lexor
oh and just a quick question, since US/Canada mirrors were full, I used German mirror to dl. there doesn't seem to be a difference and I did choose english during install, but maybe they are not the same thing? dunno it was the official mirror and all. but what bothers me is that I checked packages under Gnome rpm install, and there all these weired spellings (i.e. Canada is spelled Kannada) and office which did get installe surprisingly, is in some language close to french (which is even more surprising actually) I've messed it up good   Edited March 14, 2004 by lexor
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 14, 2004 Any mirror is fine. A mirror is just like it sounds it should be: an exact copy. All of the internationalization is done when the user selects languages.

lexor
but I didn't want kde, I wanted gnome, for some reason that bugger just doesn't install. oh well kde is good enough I guess...
