aristotle-dude
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2004/mar/15itunes.html This does not include the pepsi promo songs. This is over 10 times the Napter tally. Now when are they going to open in Canada? I don't want Puretunes WMA format. I'm a mac user damn it! Chad
It's also the reason why Apple's stock is down 4% today. Apple's goal of 100 million songs by the end of April doesn't look too good.
Bling3k12
Well it doesn't include the Pepsi promo in these numbers, these are actual purchased tunes, not won ones. Either way, if they don't hit the number (it was a large number) it's still a HUGE number of legal downloads. I can see at least 75 million if they're hitting 2.5 million purchased (not won) downloads every week.

am_fek
Umm was that 100 million meant to be for this year? I'm pretty sure Steve said it was a long-term goal. 100 million songs in its first year, if he actually said that, was a ridiculous goal and anyone who bought stock because of it is a fool :)
ad345zAdZ0d9_
$50 million :o and around $45m of that to the RIAA
cmove
That's surely good for the RIAA and Apple :D
aristotle-dude
I believe that 50 million figure does not include the Pepsi promotion but Steve's speech seemed to indicate the those number would be included in the final tally of 100 million songs in a year. So, it is still possible for them to making it by the April 28th deadline.
am_fek
Yeah, if the tally is 50m, they probably aren't counting the Pepsi giveaways. I don't see why they shouldn't be included :) Pepsi paid for them.
