thisispete
ive seen that a few other people have had the same problem. I have tried booting from CD2, and that doesnt work either. Anyone else got any suggestions on how to boot install MDK 10? -pete

KiwiNZ
Boot with disk 2 and when promted change to disk 1 , this will get around that prob
kongit
If it won't load with cd1 then either your bios isn't set right for any cd to load before the harddrive. Or you didn't burn the cd right.

hornett
I am wondering if they have not setup the ISOs correctly as I have also had problems booting with MDK 10. CD2 seems to work most of the time for me tho. :/

MulletRobZ
I couldn?t boot from CD-ROM neither, so I had to make a boot floppy. Also, the installation is a lot slower than I expected, even for a Pentium III! And for some of the programs, I heard that a fourth CD is necessary, yet only three of them are on the mirror sites besides MandrakeMove, whatever it does. But so far, with the exception of the NVidia drivers (not tested yet) and the camera, it works reasonably well. Just make sure you turn off Shorewall if you want to use the Net. CaKeY
I heard that a fourth CD is necessary... The 4th CD is not nesseseary. It's just extras for Mandrakeclub members.

UKer
I always find Smart Boot Manager (http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/) will allow you to boot any disk, as some distros won't boot with certain drives (including mine!).
threetonesun
MDK 10 is wacky, it booted from the CD 2 then immediately asked for CD1, and after installing, it wouldn't boot windows, and completely fubared the MBR ... fun stuff. Luckily I was reformatting anyway, and just putting it on for a test run.
-=SD=-
While we are on the whole boot thing, I installed it fine and everything but I don't like to start with an option for lilo so I leave my pata hd off the boot list (its the one with lilo) and just start up normally in xp on my sata drive, what would be the way to make it so I can boot to the pata drive with just a floppy? There are things about a boot floppy but that seems for the install, or is that what I need even though it's already installed..?
Big Booger
I am getting the following message: Mandrake Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably an hardware error while reading the data. I got that message on two computers. Then it goes on to give me a reboot message. I have burned the image twice with two different burning programs. I may try to redownload the first iso.. but somehow I think that it won't fix this issue. :D
kongit
I had that problem also. Just try again installing on the computer you want it on until it works. It should work eventually. I would stop after about the 4th try and wait for the update of M10. And I never had any problem with the cd being detected. I guess I am just lucky.
