MytMowse
A online friend of mine isn't able to post on this forum for some reason, so he asked me to post a question here. He would like to know what the best IRC client for Mac is? Thanks. Edited March 18, 2004 by ^_^ Silly Willy
the evn show
Might as well have asked what the best text editor or browser is because everyone has a different opinion. I like command line IRC clients so I'm drawn to ircii. It compiles just fine on OS X and works as you would expect it too on any other unix platform. Lately I've been using irssi on my OpenBSD machine because it got some pretty solid recommendations from people on orkut. So far I'm pretty pleased, and I think it might unseat the venerable ircii as my prefered client. Again it compiles on OS X without any trouble. Another one for the *nix work that has is strongly recommended is xchat. This one is a graphical one but requires an X11 server (like the one on your panther CD) to run. X11 is kinda bloated just to run an IRC client so some folks have been nice enough to port xchat to run natively* on OS X so check xchat aqua * natively is kind of a misnomer here. Command line BSD and X11 applications are technically "native" programs on OS X given it's UNIX-basis. In this context I meant native in that it uses the aqua widgets rather than X11. There are some excellent shareware ones, but that is the best free one, IMHO.
