Neowin runs Linux?

Recommended Posts

windows sucks, linux rules.

Naaah... Windows is a good deskop OS, and is a very capable server. They, just like Linux, require a good admin to ensure the latest security patches, etc, are kept up to date. My personal belief is that either the MS-Certs aren't that good and some people have the papers but lack the skills (perhaps true, perhaps not), or the corporate environment (Pointy-Haired Bosses) don't allow the updates due to 'risk evaluation' issues.

For home users, any idiot can buy a PC from a store, and put it on the internet. (and, shhhh! some of them visit Neowin) ;)

In the end, its mostly bout the capability of the administrators.

Yeah they run Linux, I love the irony in that. A big time Windows site runs Linux, which is fine by me (both are great OSes).

Forgive me if this is in the wrong location, but I just wanted to point everyones attention to:

http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=neowin.net

It appears that Neowin runs Linux, woot! Go Linux!! :D

I don't think the site is accurate. We are also listed as running Linux, but we don't have it. We're running an XP box. I think if the system sees the word "Apache" it *assumes* it's a 'nix box.

Just a reminder that by posting what I'm about to write, I am not in any way a linux zealot. Every O/S serves a specific purpose and we all know that. :D

of course it runs linux!

We all know that Linux/BSD are the most popular variants found of unix for workstations running http servers (BSD being rated as the most secure). Microsoft has unbeatable competition in this field and it will always stay like this no matter what wether the windows zealots like it or not.

Most games don't even have a linux client but there are the linux dedicated server clients for server admins. I'd say around 90% of servers for a game is ran with the linux client. That's the story with games based on the q3 and ut2003/2004 engine.

This is where Microsoft try to gain power with their next release of windows server which is 2004? (correct me if I'm wrong) but considering it's still the NT kernel, they won't go very far IMHO. Longhorn might be a different story but by 2006/2007, who knows how far linux will be.

my 2 cents

Not entirely true. Apache is shown on Linux, BSD, Windows and more.

A check of this site shows a Windows server using Apache.

The data that Netcraft gets is only what they get from the server they connect to. And a server *can* be set up to lie (some admins do this to spoof potential crackers). Also, if a site is using mutliple PCs, I think that Netcraft detects this, and tries to track each; however, on the summary page, they list just one.

A web server runs Linux, big suprise there... Even Microsoft themselves run Linux on some of their servers although they're trying to replace it.

LOL, trying?
