Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 19, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2002 I only reformat when my computer becomes unusable and I can't fix it. As long as you're smart about what you install and keep your system clean, there should be no reason to reformat except in cases of catastrophy. What are these troubles, btw? Maybe they aren't quite as unfixable as you may think....
MikeS2k
I'd only format if, say a virus added itself to nearly every file on your system. If windows has screwed up, you don't need to delete everything to re-install, just boot to DOS, type in: deltree c:windows deltree c:progra~1 deltree c:docume~1 Most games you installed will have to be re-installed, but things like MP3's or image collections, or archived zip/rar's won't be lost. Large
Go to Symantec and send them your problem before you format they say they answer within 24 hours, well I admit they did to me when I had a problem with Antivirus. They have good tech guys that respond quickly ask them, it most probably will be fixable.

Ren (Killshot)
I always give my self a small partion 4 a root drive, and install other programs on the next partion ( PARTIONS DO NOT SLOW HARD DRIVES OR PC'S DOWN ) this keeps it nice and error free ( after a few temp file tweaks )
Keldyn
I format every couple of months atleast just to keep everything fast and clean. I'm a bit of a neat freak with my computer. I hate having it all cluttered with junk. As soon as i notice things starting to slow down, or things seem like they are starting to become unstable is when i decide to format.
