Certification

What Linux certifications should I go for? LPI or Linux+?

Are employers going to say, 'wait a minute, you skipped A+' and such?

I know RHCE is good, but I'm not sure I want to be limited to one distro.

so this is equivalent to going for, say, an MCSE rather than just an A+?

i'm wondering how standard the RHCE is, how it might apply to other distros/environments. obviously MCSE and such limits you to Microsoft.

but if it gets the job, it gets the job, i guess

RedHat has samples from their written portions of their test on their website (I forget where, but they are there). They have differetn certs/tests and each of them have sample questions, so you can use that as a litmus test for your readiness and the certification's fitness to your wants and needs.

From my memory of the sample questions, most of the ones I tried are pretty generic to Linux, but there are a lot of questions on the "RedHat Way" of things...

I am very interested in this as well.

I want a Linux certification -- badly. I'm getting my A+ soon... (My god, who wrote such stupid questions... "In windows 98 this icon is called X. In windows NT 4 it's called y. How is it called in Windows XP?" -- WHO CARES? I'll find out anyways... thank god for standardized tests.)

So, which one do you think should I get? At the end of my studies, I'll have A+, Network+ MCSE, CCNA (or CCNE, depends) and I was thinking RHCE... but RHCE is damn expensive. Where can I get more information on Linux+? Is it a comptia one?

HellBender how was the Linux+ exam? Can you give us some pointers?

Linux+ is a breeze. If you're a regular at the Linux forums, you'll do fine.. Regular stuff like printing, networking, etc.

If youre looking for study material, I highly recommend the TestKing questions pdf. Theres about 60 questions on the test.. OUt of that, about 35 of mine were straight out of TestKing, word-for-word. If you want to warez it you can find it on emule or such.

I'de go with SUSE - http://www.suse.com/us/business/services/t...tion/index.html - or RedHat certifications, they're the most common systems in enterprise environments, I'de say the SUSE one is more demanding - I just reached SCLE level, but I found it more useful.

EDIT: forgot to mention the SUSE one is based on the LPI exam, but it focuses somewhat on SLES.
