Revolutionary desktop OS on it's way

Recommended Posts

Well, after little more reading, it turned out to be User Interface project for Linux and Solaris OS'.

In my opinion, it's still nice though...

*********************************************************************************

Here is what SUN is coming out with, to Linux Desktop market.

It looks so different and if they can pull this off, I bet , they will have a great chance to convince MS customers to switch to Linux.

Check it out here!!!

this is old.. but i liked the video demo, it's really cool how you can rotate the desktop in all sorts of directions.. including watching the video backwards (literally).

OS/X does something like this. I don't think it's enabled by default but I almost pooped myself when I say someone's OS/X 10.3 with it enabled.

yes the video is still the same. i like the 3d features but like the other guy said it looks like bulky. i think the point of getting the job done is having more work space. besides the CEO is right, it still under development. so we're hoping to see some more features added

Yea, yea. Good man!

It probably needs a G5 but it's cool.

nope... Expos? is part of Mac OS 10.3, not hardware releated...:

Type the F9 key, and Expos? instantly tiles all of your open windows ? scales them down and neatly arranges them

Type the F10 key, and Expos? instantly tiles all of your open Photoshop windows while causing all of the open windows of other applications to fade to a delightful shade of grey.

Type the F11 key, and Expos? hides all open windows, giving you instant access to your desktop.

I think the technology is good, but shouldn't be used in a way they have demoed it. I don't have any ideas myself but that kind of "low-processing" 3d manipulation could be put into so many good uses.

looks like ****....i dont have much faith in sun

I agree with you... even sun doesnt have much faith in their own implementations, just take a look at this internal memo from sun:

This document details the difficulties that keep our Solaris Java implementation from being practical for the development of common software applications. It represents a consensus of several senior engineers within Sun Microsystems. We believe that our Java implementation is inappropriate for a large number of categories of software application. We do not believe these flaws are inherent in the Java platform but that they relate to difficulties in our Solaris implementation.

We all agree that the Java language offers many advantages over the alternatives. We would generally prefer to deploy our applications in Java but the implementation provided for Solaris is inadequate to the task of producing supportable and reliable products.
