I had heard info about it but today I'm just seeing site after site, and all IRC channels hosting it. Even eDonkey2000 has it easily available. Are they planning to release a demo of this anytime soon, or will people just resort to using the [heavily cracked] beta version? I'd much rather they release a demo [like C&C Renegade], rather than try [and fail] to keep it quite a quiet affair. Then again, Renegade is REALLY struggling with servers, even after the second patch of the demo. And only being able to use Gamespy Arcade [with all it's cursed popups and overall slowness] is rubbish . Anyway, I basically want to find out if this game is any good. I've seen screenshots of it and it looks quite rubbish, but if it has gameplay as good as the original Warcraft [not the crap sequel] then it will be infinitely playable. mortensen Posted February 20, 2002 Author Share Posted February 20, 2002 I've just played it now... it's actually not as bad as it looks! It apparently NEEDS a 32mb gfx card though. I've now got to play it on my network to test it with some enemies but it's not as bad as the screenshots are. The ISO is 254mb big and is easily available on IRC [irc.eskimo.com]. You have to do all sorts of manual stuff though. I like the fact that you can move NightElve building. You have to move the town centre next to the gold mine to get gold. Funny stuff. If you COULD get computer opponents or LAN play then the beta would be great.... but you can't. As for the request of the file name: Everyone has called it different things. And you can find it in loose ISO form, or ZIP form. And different cracks do different things which different patches [one crack uses the 1.02 patch, the other I've found uses the 1.03 patch]. Also, the 'keygen' is not a keygen, but an emulation for Battle.net. Also, is this why Blizzard.com was down today? Because it was getting SO MANY hits? I've stopped that didnt I? And the above person is right, if you have to resort to Neowin to find the warcraft leak, your not doing something right and you dont deserve to play. I have found no way to play with any enemies. All you 'seem' to be able to do is launch a solo game where you get to build up a base and killed a few monsters [some upto Level 5 Dragons] that guard each gold mine. Not really THAT interesting.Apparently you can setup a server and can just type in an IP into a registry setting and play, but I haven't been able to do this yet. Please get back to the point.... I was commenting on how amazingly quickly it has spread, not HOW do download it or what cracks to use. If you know how to use IRC then you should have it already.... if not then figure out how to use P2P programs. if you have to resort to Neowin to find the warcraft leak, your not doing something right and you dont deserve to play You are TOTALLY right. If you have to get 'warez' from Neowin then you really shouldn't be using it.... mostly because you won't have a clue how to use it because only n00b's would get warez links of Neowin. mcb Posted February 20, 2002 Share Posted February 20, 2002 renegade wont win. youve seen how crappy and buggy the demo was. even if they fix that, it leaves a lasting impression. and the game itself is pretty lame. its just too different from the other C&C's. this game will probably ruin the series to some extent. Warcraft will do better no matter what. Blizzard has always been one of the tope selling companies, they release Mac version simultaneous to PC, Diablo 2 was the fastest selling game of all time. getting back on the beta track, if thats even apropriate. eDonkey's crappy, i dont like it. at this point, blizzard might as well release it to everybody before any damage gets done. i know they'd have to suppy Battle.net severs, but for now there could be regular, anybody hosts servers. (and to my understanding, this is already being done, so Blizzard wouldnt have to do much) i can understand if blizzard is pist that a restricted demo got spread so quickly, but they just did it to protect themselves from bugs they have yet to get rid of and further the hype. enough is enough. people will just get tired of it before the game even comes out if it gets hyped too much. theyve been working on it for about 3 years.
