Dazzla Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 /EDIT .. Dazzla bought the 40gb!! see post: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=...dpost&p=1883754 I'm caught in 2 minds, I was about to grab the 20GB off Amazon for ?290 when I checked the Apple Refurb store. ?296 for the 30gb and ?319 for the 40gb. 2 things I'm worried about are battery life and cosmetic appearance on the refurbs. Reckon I should sacrifice the space for the quality?
Phemo
Tough one. I personally prefer to buy most of my stuff brand new even though there's most likely nothing wrong with the refurbs. If it came down to it though, I'd most likely pay for the 40GB version, they can't be that old anyway so the battery shouldn't really have taken much abuse yet. Incidently, I know it's not one of your options, but if you did decide to get a new iPod, I bought my 40GB one from expansys, here. At ?350 inc vat, it's the best price I've seen on a brand new 40GB. versiondub
get the 20 gb brand new because it's smaller than the 30 and the 40 - it makes a big difference how thick the unit is IMO.
jaffa
i only have one advice: don't buy refurbed.. for things with a big price tag.. dont even consider it.. 20Gb should be enough man.. get the new one.. i can't imagine scrolling trough 30GB to find a song i want.. .. i have like +30GB of music on my pc.. and i only listen to like 10% of them daily.. :pinch:
Dazzla Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 I've bought a Powerbook refurb from Apple before and it was flawless and that was fine. It's just the possiblity of the used battery that's not appealing. Phemo, I can't believe how cheap it is there :|

Steven
Unless you have a music collection that is rediculously large or want to use the iPod as a portable hard drive then get the 40GB otherwise 20GB should be plenty. My 10GB isn't even filled up and I have plenty of space on it left.
Dazzla Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 Hmm, I've got about 8GB of music and a DVD Writer for backup. Perhaps the 20GB is the best choice.
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 I believe they replace the batteries if there's enough of a problem. I got my GF a refurbed iBook for christmas and it's been just perfect. The battery lasts just as long as mine and it would be new to me if it weren't for the slight body styling differences. I'd go with the 40GB because it's really not that much more expensive. And get them while you can (refurb stuff goes quick!).
Dazzla Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 Bought the 40GB. As well as a Canon A70, damn Spyder.......
Redestium
Like what was said, the 40 is a bit fatter than the 20 and that might be a drawback. I saw one and compared it to my 20 and I'm glad I got the 20 after seeing the difference.
Steven
Bought the 40GB. As well as a Canon A70, damn Spyder....... The 40GB makes a nice portable hard disk like I said, so now that you've purchased it you would probably save money on having to buy DVD's all the time. I'm sure you'll find some use for your extra space. :)

giga Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 20gig for sure considering your 8gb music. Thinner than the 40 and 30 which is nice. The 20 already seems too big in my pocket. lol

Chicane-UK Veteran Posted March 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2004 I've got about 10GB of music, and i've only so far plopped about 2 or 3GB of tunes on my iPod. Not using it to anywhere near its potential yet, and i've had it like 5 months. The 20GB is MORE than enough :)
Fusion
I am sure you already know this, but the 20gb version is much thinner, and just feels nicer IMO, plus you still get the dock and everything. Go for the 20!
