Redestium
So, guys. I'm thinking of getting the 20GB. What do you recommend? Help me out here, I'm really stuck, I dunno what to get :/
Fusion
So, guys. I'm thinking of getting the 20GB. What do you recommend? Help me out here, I'm really stuck, I dunno what to get :/ I believe there was a thread similar to this one with someone asking almost the same question. I would probably go with the 20 just because the price. I mean cheaper is always better. Unless you really have more than 20gb of music then the choice is obvious, unless your main computer is a laptop, then it is not so obvious. I would suggest getting the 20, but that's just me
Steven
^^ I just don't understand how dumb people can be. There is really no emoticon out there that can explain this guy above me. ^^ Daz, You don't even try hard and you get people easy. Dazzla Veteran Posted March 26, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 26, 2004 Yep, the iPod came today, that's pretty shocking because I ordered it wednesday night at like 11PM and they quoted 3-5 days delivery. The amazon order said 1 Business day yet it hasn't arrived. It should arrive tomorrow. So unfortunately I can't take any sweet photos of the iPod yet, just nasty cam phone photos. There's one bonus though, when I bought my powerbook, it was in a plain cardboard box, no powerbook box or anything. You could tell it was a refurb straight away. The iPod is in a retail box all sealed up, nice :D I haven't even opened it yet, just taken a few pics :D

Dazzla Veteran Posted March 26, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 26, 2004 Man, it's absolutely tiny! I can't believe how small it is :| And there's not a chance in hell you'd know it's a refurb. It's flawless, there's not even so much as a fingerprint on it. It still had all the "Don't steal music" stickers all over it. There's absolutely no way you'd know it's a refurb. Man I love it :| love how it's all touch sensitive. I haven't even put a ****ing song on it yet, I haven't even got anything out apart from the iPod :| Everything is in it's original packets or just new components by the looks of things. Headphones, charger, carry case, remote. All in what looks like it's original packaging. I got a bargain here :|

esno
Windows will see your iPod just as a removable HD (no drivers needed). Noving more, nothing less. To copy your music, you can use EphPod (freeware) or just Apples iTunes. If you want to copy data, you can just drag & drop it on your iPod. :) I love my iPod! :D

Why do you need to install extra software to do it?
Dazzla Veteran Posted March 26, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted March 26, 2004 It's appeared as G:\ :D It's sat in the dock charging now (I think) saying "Do Not Disconnect" with a little refresh(?) sign in the top left. What's it actually doing?
theyarecomingforyou
why cant you just drag and drop music onto the iPod using Explorer? Because it is database driven to make scrolling and browsing/random play fast. Each time you copy using iTunes or an alternative it has to update the database... if the database gets corrupted then it can be awkward and you may have to recopy on everything. You can't browse on it by folder like other MP3 players... everything is done via the database... whereas the iRiver iHP120 has both, with the database method as an option. iTunes is really good though, and copying on songs is so little effort. I can't be assed to read the manual  When it says "Do not disconnect" its in Drive Mount Mode. This means its ready to accept data. This also Which means for PC or Mac you can drag / drop files to it as a harddrive. If you want to send music to it, use iTunes. (Y). You have to "EJECT" or "DISMOUNT" it before you take it off the dock or unplug it. When you do this it will say "Safe to Remove" with a nice Check Mark on the screen. I suggest you upgrade the firmware too. The one you have on the device is probably old.

When I got mine I opened the box and there was almost a white glowing light coming from the inside. There was such care taken to make even the box have a presentation?truly awesome. As far as the ?do no disconnect? message, you?ve enabled disk support, which means you need to manually eject or dismount the iPod. Through iTunes in the lower right corner there is a button to do so when you select the iPod in the source pane.

The iPod appears in Explorer as RAW and doesn't appear in iTunes. I've downloading and installed iPod Updater if that makes any difference. Edit, just ran the updater, it formatted it. Appears as "IPOD" in explorer now with 40GB free, and appears in iTuens

(although there's a way to get around it) think it is small eh daz? i was amazed at how much they've shrunk it from the 2nd gen iPod too, but now look at the iPod mini..
