Difference between 10 GB and 15 GB Version of iPod

Recommended Posts

... beside the size of course.

I ask because i can get an 10 GB iPod for 209? and the 15 GB Version for 339?. As i dont want to pay another 130? for just 5GB (ten is more than enough) i'll hope size is the only difference.

Links to official sites would be great!

I think it's only the physical size of the iPod that increases with the hard disk space, but that's about it.

Radish?

Thanks that kinda confirms my thoughts...

Sadly the site offers little information. But i did some searching and im pretty sure now it offers the same functionality as the 15 GB version.

But shame on apple for not including a carrying case and usb/firewire cable. They can really learn something from iRiver

I got some other questions regarding the iPod

How can i recharge the battery (does it work through the usb cable) or does apple give you some kind of power supply unit

Will normal usb2 or firewire cable work or do i have to purchase a special iPod version.

I ask all these dumb questions because i don't want to get srewed by the shop and im kinda confused as it offers so many accessories that i would normally expect to come with the normal product (headphones, usb2/firewire cable, carrying case, dock, power suplly)

I thought that you wouldn't get the cradle and the remote with the 10gb version which you do get with the 15gb version.... but I could be very wrong.

Other then that the only difference should be the harddisk size.

As seen here - http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html

You get an AC Adapter to recharge, default on all iPod's is a firewire cable - so you may have to buy a USB 2.0 cable to use on your PC.

Radish?

You definately wanna check out http://www.ipodlounge.com - best site ever for info about iPods.

By the way, apple have discontinued selling the 3G 10gig iPod, instead replacing it with the 15gig 3G iPod at the same price.

So when you say 10 gig, are you talking about the older iPod (with buttons that literally are AROUND the wheel) or the newer 10gig one (which is discontinued but can be found at various places including eBay) with the 4 buttons ABOVE the wheel.

Because there are significant differences between those two...

So as i have to buy an usb2/firewire anyway. Whatis that usb2 + firewire cable for ipod only for. As far as i understand the whole purpose is that you can simultaneous charge your battery with the firewire part and sync you files with the usb2 part. Am i right. Cause in this case i would get one of those

Firewire is faster than USB 2.0. Literally, not technically. Even though Firewire has 400mbps and USB 2.0 480mbps...Firewire still has the faster real time speeds.

Plus it can charge the iPod. Plus the cable is already included. The USB 2.0 cable isnt included. Go with Firewire.

make sure it is the 3g with the dock. If it isn't get the more expensive one. The dockable ipods are way better imho. All the perifs that go with it are better, and the firmware and software updates are not happening anymore for the older models.

Go big or go home.

Also, 10 Gigs is big enough? I wish my 30 gig was a 130 gig... someday.

i assume you're talking about the 3rd generation iPod.

ok a lil history, when Apple released the 3rd gen iPod, there were three options - 10GB, 15GB and 30GB, and the 15GB and 30GB came with dock and remote. then Apple ditched the 10GB and 30GB models and introduced 20GB and 40GB iPod, hence the 15GB doesn't come with the dock and remote anymore. anyway the 10GB, 15GB and 20GB iPods have the same physical size and weight.

hope that clears things up. you better call the seller and ask if it's the 3rd gen iPod, you don't want a 2nd gen iPod.

130gig? Holy...thats a lot of space. So far I've only used about 2.5 gigs of my 20 and I dont think I'll ever fill it all up.

Yeah I use the dock and case everyday. Great accesories and looks nice on my desk. :)

I imagine that you are talking about the 3rd gen 10/15 gig iPod. There is no difference in size and weight. The only difference between the 2 is hard disk space.

As for the cable, yes, you must use a specialized cable. The 3rd gen iPods have a proprietary connection that plugs into the actual iPod. The firewire cable is included. You are not able to charge via usb 2.0, sadly. Firewire realtime speeds are faster, anyways.

As for someone mentioning the dock earlier, it is pretty much a useless piece of equipment. There is really no need to have it other than if you want something to put it in when you charge it. There is no other purpose for it.

Other than that, it's a great piece of machinery.

Dock has line out. Pretty neat feature for sterio. But thats only if you need it. Yeah other than that its pretty much useless. It doesnt add more functionality other than the line out. But it sure does look nice. :)
