IP Address change?

i remember a few years ago, i had a prob with my connection and i called my cable internet tech line thingy, and the guy wanted me to check my ip, and told me to type something in run. it gave you the option to change your ip too. does anyone know the command?

CMD > ipconfig

?

I change my IP from going

ipconfig /release

...then turning off router/modem thing for 30 seconds and then

ipconfig /renew

You can change your IP in the Network and Dial-Up options, but it must match the IP your ISP gave you. You can renew a DHCP address also but that is server assigned. In any scenario you must have it changed with your ISP.

If your ISP gives you a static IP address, then releasing and renewing won't change it. It would have to be done at their end.
