read and write a linux partition in windows?

Recommended Posts

wouldn't samba do the trick? setup samba server on linux (can be difficult, I actually battle with it myself now) then just map drive in explorer.

I think that they are asking about doing it on the same (dual-boot) PC.

Linux can read/write to FAT, and read NTFS (write with some newer tricks that I don't recommend where data integrity is critical).

But Microsoft is bent on refusing to interoperate with other OSes (or even with open standards).

I wouldn't that as it would have a very high chance of borking it. Your best bet for any linux filesystem is to use a fat partition to transfer stuff between windows and linux. Unless you are going to access something like music, pictures, or a documents, there really isn't a reason to access stuff in windows. If you have to fix something use knopix.

After a while you start finding ways to do what you used to jump into windows to do and you gradually stop using windows altogether :D
