phantomAI
One of my friends was running a Dual boot setup with XP and RedHat. He uninstalled RedHat and is now having trouble booting into Windows, as it won't let him. Based on what he IMed me he was using Partition Magic and also deleted the boot loader and the Red Hat partition. I suggested using the XP CD and doing a repair but he said he tried that and it didn't work. Any suggestions
KHaKi-
use the windows CD to go into recovery mode and do the command fdisk /mbr...atleast thats what I've heard to do...if this is wrong correct me guys
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 28, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 28, 2004 That is correct. Sounds like your friend didn't follow the very clear instructions to properly remove a dual-boot MBR. :pinch: Don't worry, it is easy to recover.
kjordan2001
Not sure if XP has fdisk, I've always used fixmbr and fixboot whenever I needed to clean up my boot stuff.
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 29, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2004 Yeah, it still has fdisk. fixmbr is new, and cannot be used on the older Windows PCs, so I stick to recommending fdisk /mbr
