giga Veteran Posted April 4, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 4, 2004 Try some of the suggestions above. About the toothpaste, I have some of the white baking soda kind. Does it work on the back also. Or just the front?
the evn show
You're seriously considering rubbing toothpaste on your iPod because some guy on the internet told you it was a good idea? That reminds me of the old IRC quote: guy1 Quick: what's the best way to get Vasaline off your penis? someone Sand paper. guy1 Shut up, I'm not falling for that again. s/vasaline/scratches/ s/penis/ipod/ s/sandpaper/toothpaste/
Billthy
HAHA nice you really need to use sandpaper though? what kind of grade?

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted April 4, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 4, 2004 Isn't Brasso for brass, though? Any before and after pictures of how this stuff works?
Crowmac
yeah you are correct, I used it as this was the only thing i had in my house and it brings the back of the ipod up perfect, not sure what to use on the front mind you as mine is not scratched and the screen is ok for now ;)
the evn show
^ totally. I've used brasso to clean other kinds of metal too (aluminum, steal) and it works pretty well but it didn't remove bad scratches and it left an awful smell. If you find something that works I'd like to hear/see the results too though I'll probably just "make do" with the ugly scratched up iPod until the 4th generation ships. black.ops
^Do you really buy a new one every generation? wow... I mean like...I wish i had enough money for a toothpick...
TheWitePony
for the back just use some sand paper, vigorously coverall the back of your iPod. If you do a good job it'll give it that OSX "brushed metal" look. note...that is joke, please do not attempt anything remotely like the above, i don't think there is much you can really do to fix it completely (short of buying a new iPod). I would recommend buying a nice case and being very careful with your little friend in the future.

am_fek
Anyone tried iCleaner yet? Does it work well?
cpreovol
Sandpaper does actually work. I've used 3M 2,000 grit sandpaper followed by toothpaste followed by mineral oil to get out deeper scratches on both iPod's that I've owned. I think they use this sandpaper on bowling balls, its super, super fine and doesn't really look or feel like sandpaper at all, but it is.
