This is why Linux is better

While Linux is Microsoft's only true competition (can hardly describe Apple with their meager market share as competition) I don't think MS will have anything to worry about.

As for the picture, its either fake, or there is some malicious program running or it down to operator fault.

no its not photoshopped. i've gotten that error before as well, and it was nothing i did.

As much as I like Linux, I'd be lying if I said it was perfect, which it isn't.

I don't see why Linux would be better. I've gotten far stranger errors from Linux. Then again, Linux, Windows and OSX all have their place, strengths and weaknesses.

OSX has weakness's!? Oh yah thats its software support

Judging by Ely's rather antagonistic response above, I would wager that he either never loaded Linux, or just didn't understand it...

And hard to work with and buggy as hell too, and when you need support you don't find any, Free usually means no support too.
So ridiculous that it barely rates comment. If you want support, you BUY it, just like Windows. Plus, there are constant improvements and fixes to programs, free to download.
6) It can be installed on just about any computer and can be dual booted with any version of Windows.
Windows can also be installed in about ANY computer, what's the big deal here?
Oh, come ON! Windows is limited to the i386 CPU archectecture. Linux runs on almost every processor type.
Want to compete with my 2.66GHz XP system? If you have crappy hardware then don't blame Windows for it, Go buy some fast hardware and trash your last century computer which only allow outdated and low class OSes to run fast on it.
Yes, you subscribe to Bill Gates' disposable computer flock. Throw away the year old PC and buy an all-new one. Or maybe you really use it to the limit and keep it two years....

Linux is about choice. You are free to choose it, or to not. You can pick individual parts, from the kernel on up. Don't want any thing, don't install it. It's freedom. I own my PC, and *I* control exactly what's on it. Windows limits (and in many cases prevents) those kinds of freedoms of the Operating System in exhange for support? ease of use? I'm not sure, because I have no problems with support. There are constant improvements and fixes available for me to the core OS on up. And it is easy enough for my wife and kids to use without training.

And that is why I am convinced you don't know Linux. If Microsoft suits you fine, that is not a problem. The poster with whom you were so hostile was not attacking you or even remotely critical of you. Glad you got your little tirade out, now please calm down...

well now that somebody pasted an error message in windows i guess it sucks and linux is king

now tell me how that makes sense

linux is good and so is windows

they have thier places

i will admit that

but thats not a reason to go flaming everybody over which OS is better

im not even gonna post my preference cause im sure ill get flamed for it bys omebody of the opposite opinion

for example, comp geek may like linux better, my mom mite like windows

and i know that linux is used by more than comp geeks, but (i think) they make up the majority of users

and open source doesnt nessicarily mean bad support, there are plenty of people willing to help you out

maybe not a 1 - 800 number, but still may get problem solved

so thats my opinion

dont flame me

I know Linux so much, I run two Linux PCs on my network 4 FreeBSD and around 100 Windows 2000 machines.

FYI I also have double boot on my home PC but use Linux JUST to learn and keep up to date with the OS, I DO know what Linux is, but after years of test I come to the conclussion that Windows is WAY better in the long run.

I will not go into long arguements, I really dont have the heart for it today.

LONG LIFE TO WINDOWS!

8) Each Linux distro comes with tons of added software to chose from at no charge (i.e. 5 CD burning programs, multiple MPEG and video players, 3 Internet Browsers, financial, Open Office, etc).

Lol, and to think that thousands of linux fags want to kill Bill Gates because he includes the oh so mighty WMP in windows.

Pathetic case of "if, and only if, we do it, then it's right"

At least if you try to actually delete the Windows system folder (and not the WINDOWS folder you deleted from who knows where) the system will give you an error. In Linux, you can actually run the rm -r and wipe the whole system.

Wow... thats a lot of responces. I have had this error before and I know how to get rid of it, but that was besides my point. Anyways, I do use Steam, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Warcraft III, Unreal Tournement in Linux along with some other Windows games.

The Reason I'm in Windows if because SuSE downgraded my kernel (and now it lacks features such as mouse support), so right now I just have to type like 2 commands to fix that.

Ya, the reason I posted this was to ask why it happens (and I was bored).

And, I just cropped it in Photoshop.. thats about it.

Oh, and what's that thing about Plymouth? You insulting Plymouth?

Bla bla bla.

Whatever kids.

The linux kernel is by far the nicest piece of code I ever laid eyes upon.

The rest of the stuff should be called beta, especially the graphical stuff -- console stuff that has been there for ages, like apache, is of course, great and stable -- but that is not linux itself.

I really am tired of those senseless windows bashers. They pick out every single little thing they can find to dismiss that OS as being pure crap. If I really was to be anal, I could do the same with Gnome and KDE.

Don't get me wrong, I love linux. I don't really like windows, I by far prefer Linux -- and unix in general. But my arguments to prove it's better in my opinion will be quite alot more intelligent than "hehehe.. strange error."

Windows is quite good as an operating system, it just doesn't suit my tastes -- I use it because I have to, and Linux is not quite ready for the desktop, but getting there. If they could ditch X, that would be a good step forward. But show me servers, ha ha, I don't need no windows there.

And yes, I have been using Linux as a desktop OS for about two years, at work -- as a network administrator.

Many things never worked the way they were supposed to, and yes, GUIs for Linux do crash once in a while.

For instance, that Gnome popup that would ask you for the root password whenever you ran somehing you could not execute or required uid 0 privileges stopped working randomly -- I could never get it back to work, and beleive me I tried. Some things are great, I know, but some seriously lack features, they feel like pre-alpha stuff with half-features that were included because "That thing had to be there somehow."

I will write a rant on this someday...

Anyways, i'm just ranting and probably being quite a bit of a dick. Nevermind my tired self.

if you start to say linux is bether then windows atleast come up whit a valid argument.

Dont just go; windows gave me a error message when i got 1001 viruses when i surfed porn and warez whitout any configuration to explorer.

The one thing everybody that have used linux should have learned is that you ALWAYS need to configure youre os and its programs.

Windows comes up whit error messages when you do something stupid or have not properly configured and updated it.

Windows needs updates and guess what, Linux does too.. You try to use a old distro unpatched and see if its secure.

and for those morons that say xp sucks becouse it has all that fancy crap.

Well wake up. what do you call kde and gome ? you can turn themes on and off on boath OS.

And linux is not nearly as user firendly as windows. in windows you grandmom could navigate and unzip a file.

in linux you have to learn command strings for this and that.

My windows fully patched have a system uptime for 76 days now. the reason its so short is becouse its 76 days since i last formated my disk, becouse i tried linux dual boot, and found out that i had to recompile the kernel to get linux to support my audigy 2 card..

in windows i just had to apply the cd whit the drivers. in linux i have to recompile the freaking kernel....

And as a fotnote; If linux were the market leading os they would have more viruses and you would all run windows complaining about linux being open source...

If you dont know what the hell you are talking about then dont talk about it,.....

windows never just suddenly get infected whit spyware, viruses and **** ups. You put them there when you surfed porn and clicked yes when the virus was knocking at youre door, asking if it could infect you.

Yes, I know Linux is not bullet-proof. But the vast majority of the viruses and worms out today exploit Windows based computers.

I dont know the exact number, but I wouldnt be surpised if any MS OS is installed on 95% of all computers..

ITRON dwarfs windows popularity on 'all computers' (like the one in your VCR). as far as desktop machines go: microsoft is in the high-80s, mac os makes up the low 10s, and various flavours of unix, beos, linux, make up the remainder of the desktop installed user base.

My feelings about the whole *NIX/Window rivalry are pretty similar to mr_da3m0n's so I'm not going to bother repeating what's already been said. The only real difference is that I prefer BSD based OS's to Linux, I have my reasons as I'm sure he does. Outside of the endless mostly good spirited *nix rivalries (bsd vs *nix, vi vs emacs, gtk vs qt) I don't care what he uses because I'm sure he's a reasonably bright guy and can choose the best platform for his needs and tastes. Hard as it is to believe I think that almost all of the population does that with their platform: even windows users. Sometimes I just question the kind of taste they have ;)

IMO, a lot of the bashing that goes on (all platforms - Windows vs OS X, Linux vs Windows, Linux vs OS X, BeOS vs *...) is mindless ranting. It's like eating dinner and across the room is another guy screaming the most ignorant and hateful things about blacks, jews, muslims, homosexuals or whatever: You're not the idiot, but you feel a little embarrassed just being in the same room.

I don't care what you use, and I don't care if you agree with my choice in software: but I don't think it's too much to ask for a substantial or meaningful argument if you're going to try to sway me one way or the other. When people have those arguments I find that a lot of meaningful discussion can occur. I may not start using windows tomorrow - but I usually learn a little more about it's networking stack, or how OS X handles consistency checks, or some other piece of arcane technical trivia that increases my understanding of software as a whole.

For some reason "LOLOL!!!1!!!!!1!!!one!!1! teh blue screen o' death LOL :):):)" just doesn't convince me.

no i have a killer reason. you all know windows update right? well i realised that the supposed auto update feature has been doing jack all since i installed windows. so i go to windows update manually and magically no updates avalible. so i check around for the blaster patch (rpc crud whatever, i don't really care anymore :D)... there is no patch installed.

for some genious reason windows update thinks my system is eternily up to date. good thing i have a router to block all those evil rpc calls. the irony is every page i went to get the patches suggests you use windows update :D
