Krook
Quicksilver does the same as Launchbar - startup is quicker - looks better - is free http://www.blacktree.com/apps/quicksilver/index.php
patseguin Global Moderator Posted April 2, 2004 Global Moderator Share Posted April 2, 2004 You took the words right out of my mouth. Quicksilver is much better IMHO.
am_fek
The interface for Quicksilver is awful.. we're not using Windows XP here :x
NeoMayhem
You took the words right out of my mouth. Quicksilver is much better IMHO. Just tried it, not bad at all. LB is probably a little better and more configurable, but for free this is damn good.
am_fek
Neo: You tried selecting albums? It seems that when I choose some albums, it queues the whole album; but with others it only queues the track I actually select. I'm not gonna moan too hard since it's beta 1, was just curious as to whether anyone else is seeing that too :)
NeoMayhem
Interesting, usually it queues the whole album, but after I just tried it a few times sometimes just the selected song plays. I will report it as a bug, I am sure it will get fixed.

bararum
i like butler over this (mainly cause it's free) but also has a lot of other features and is fairly fast.
am_fek
Butler and Quicksilver just aren't nice interfaces. Objective Development really understands what makes a nice UI. I don't want a launcher spawning in the middle of my screen and hogging space.. Quicksilver is worse in this regard.. it starts off with one box, and then spawns a whole second one to the side if you get multiple matches.. yuck :x Launchbar is just far more elegant. These things are just launchers, they shouldn't get in the way of anything.

I really find it humorous the way you knock Butler and QS for doing something, then praise LB because it does the EXACT same thing.
am_fek
You are easily amused. I really find it humorous the way you knock Butler and QS for doing something, then praise LB because it does the EXACT same thing.I used Another Launcher for a long time, and there was no option to emulate Launchbar's behaviour that I ever saw. Did I miss it? Does Butler have it?If Quicksilver has it, that's great. I didn't see it and I don't plan on trying it again. Launchbar does exactly what I want and it does it out of the box. Chad
The freakin gui is up for maybe 5 seconds. Who the hell cares if it's in the middle of the screen. You can't use another app while your using LB/QS anyway, so the placement of the popup makes no difference AT ALL. What could it possibly be hogging space from? Your attention is on the app you are using. It disappears once you make your selection, so yet again, it doesn't interfere with anything. They both essentially bring up a second window as well. Their interfaces are all pretty much the same. A window pops up, in some cases a second one will, and then your done. What really ticks me off is people who make up the lamest reasons for not using software....especially good software. If you don't like something, just say so. There's no need to try and make things up to justify your stance. Bad interfaces....HONESTLY!!
