mtgriffith
Is there a place in the BIOS where you can tell it to go into standby when you press the power button?
Roger H. Veteran Posted February 22, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 22, 2002 more than Likely ACPI wasn't turned on in your BIOS. go to the device manager and click the plus beside "Computer" and see if it says... Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC or Standard PC and then if it say Standard PC then your motherboard either does not support ACPI properly or doesn't have it turned on. you'll have to browse thru your BIOS (in power management) and see if ACPI is on. If it wasn't then turn it on and no you wont now have standby.. you'll have to either format and reinstall or just reinstall for the changes to take effect. When you reinstall your settings or nothing wont be lost... XP is just loading the default files sux as the proper HAL (Hardware Abstaction Layer) which coressponds to the BIOS. If it was already on or you don't see it then try upgrading your BIOS and then reinstalling.... that might help.
