Vinh
Ok when i had winxp installed, i formatted right.. right! but after the nice format and the smell of a clean partition. I install winxp back on again, but this time when the install finish and does the last reset, it freezes and then resets, it keeps doing it. a reinstall over the top still resets the comp when it nearly loads up to desktop. so i format, install winme adn then format again and then winxp. this time it works... why ? :ermm:
BroChaos Veteran Posted February 22, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 22, 2002 that is messed up. a format should be a format should be a format, ya know? it should be like absolutely the same every time.

Miran
What type of format? I personally never use QUICK FORMAT - I don't believe that a quick format which takes 10 seconds can do the same job that a full format takes an hour to do (on my 80 gigger). Did you change anything? Did you maybe use FAT32 first time, NTFS second??
Vinh
nope, fat32 all the time.

Miran
I have no idea.. All I know is that when I've used quick format in the past, I've ran into stability problems. Might just be me, let me know.
Winston
the best format line is FORMAT C: /U /u means unconditional it clears out all the clusters and every bit of the data off the disks

Might just be me, let me know. bah, i never manually format nowadays at any rate. it was like; - set up partitions, format, install win2k and make all partitions ntfs - establish warez-hood on big drives - occasionally re-install win2k with auto-format in installer on the small system-partition. i only re-install when i run into serious issues or the system feels unstable like a bad mother... and i have a good feeling about this install :D works like a charm. provided i install from the correct cd. i have three win2k cd's. only one of them gives me a stable system (although they're all the same build etc.) :ermm: well well. nuff bout me sys, ait? ;)
