pander
hey all. i've been lately interested in mac computing.. i found it's very attractive and i'm actually pretty tired of standard pc computing. basically i'm tired of the unstability on windows, even though i used linux, osx looks really good and stable too.. and hell.. it's based on unix so it must be good. the idea of this post is to know if it's worth the spend of more than half a million dollars on buying a nice 17" powebook g4 and probably a nice ipod. don't you consider all the mac stuff is overpriced? why it's so expensive? if there's one thing for sure.. is that my next computer will be a mac even if i have to be months for paying it. btw, any powerbook user can tell me how does it feel working with it's own keyboard? i'm not much friendly with standard laptop's keyboard.. thanks :)
LordHatrus
Obviously, you can still use Linux on PPC. (Linux users tend to say the only prob with OS X is the 'gooey GUI' and how somethings are a little limited) The really scary thing is, there are probably more and better apps for linux than OS X. If you're looking at laptops, slashdot just ran an article on how people are switching to them as 'real' computers.... the article was http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/01/technolo...d=all&position= And Apple hardware is expensive, yes..... but their strong user base (note, not large user base, but a strong one) apparently do not mind the extra costs. SFNE Freak
I don't really consider them "expensive" as much as I do "more expensive than PCs." You get what you pay for.
Explicative
basically i'm tired of the unstability on windows, even though i used linux, osx looks really good and stable too.. and hell.. it's based on unix so it must be good. No offense but this is a rather ignorant statement. If instability really is your main concern then I'd suggest you save your money and instead invest some time into learning how to properly setup and maintain your computer. Neither Windows nor OSX is inherently more stable than the other, but if it's a question of hardware/software interoperability then you should know that most OEM PCs are just as well configured as any computer from Apple. Anyway, not to start a flamewar but unless you are talking about a specific bug/s you should know that stability is primarily a function of how you use your computer, not who manufactured it.
