Nforce Drivers

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Nforce2 Ultra 400 Mobo Chipset

Looking at the nvidia site

Linux nForce Driver - IA32

Version: 1.0-0261

Release Date: June 11, 2003

Will those support my nforce2 U400 chipset? *wondering because i think the ultra 400 varible of it was out after june 2003* ???

Basically since i built this new system about 4 month ago i've been having a lot of driver issues for the hardware.

the usb controller is the main issue at the moment i'm tryin to solve atm.

Thanks

Scott

nforce drivers are in kernel now

Above which version does the kernel include nforce drivers?

BTW, i've got a newbie question: there's the kernel version 2.6.x for some time, but most distris include a kernel version 2.4.x. Why? Is 2.6.x so unstable?

Nah... 2.6 is still sortof 'new-ish'...

The larger distros are coming out with 2.6-based releases now. Some already have, and others will in the next month or so...

2.6.x is very stable now, except for its refrequent update, i've using 2.6.x for months

2.6.x include the nforce drivers

nforce works great with linux if you have everything set right (that is usually true with most all hardware). If you can't get it to work with the 2.4 kernel or you feel like you have the time to get the 2.6 kernel to work upgrade. While there is a definite increase of speed with the 2.6 kernel I haven't noticed any drastic improvement in terms of device support. In fact the driver for my vid card in 2.4 works better than the one in 2.6. But I am assuming that since you are using the nforce that you have a nice vid card in which case you would need drivers from either the maker or from another party and not the one included in the kernel and x to get the best results from your vidcard. :)
