Linux/Unix area reorg

Recommended Posts

Currently there are two forums in the Linux/Unix area:

1. Customizing your Linux OS

Share and view interface elements for your Linux box here

and

2. Open Source OS Discussion

Sub forums: Linux HOWTO & FAQ's

Recently #2 with Renamed from Linux Discussion to "Open Source OS Discussion".

Now that it's been renamed it seems more logical to post about Linux in the first forum "Customizing your Linux OS" yet the "Linux HOWTO & FAQ's" subfolder is still associated with the "Open Source OS Discussion".

Now that I've noticed that people seem to be asking general Linux questions in the "Customizing your Linux OS" forum, should we not move the "Linux HOWTO & FAQ's" subforum from "Open Source OS Discussion" to ". Customizing your Linux OS".

But the customization section is simply for that... customization; it's not the area for assistance.

The support forum is Open Source OS Discussion, covering all open-source operating systems, while Linux HOWTO & FAQ's is solely for Linux.

Short version: it should stay.

Since it's the only section that says "Linux" you now see new posts going there. For instance the Linux journaling file system thread.

Before the "Open Source OS Discussion" was renamed it was hardly ever used at all. Now that it says "Linux" it's going to become the defacto area for new posts about Linux.

That's fine so long as the mods wish to keep moving stuff.

Tis the mods decision. Especially since they be the ones moving stuff.
