x2z
Hello. First of all I am not trying to spam in anyway, I just thought someone may be interested in my eMac that I bought, I don't really like it. I thought I would like a mac, but I don't. Anyways it's a 1.0GHz Ghz, 768Mb RAM, 40Gb HD, ATI Radeon 7500 32mb ram, combo drive, all apple cds, apple keyboard/mouse, and more. :) If anyone is interested, I have listed it on ebay with pictures. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MESSE%3AIT&rd=1 By the way, it's only a week old, it will ship in original packing. Dazzla Veteran Posted April 8, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 8, 2004 Build To Order. If it's a stock machine you can send it back, if you specified custom components you can't.
x2z
It's custom :( Maybe I'll just keep it, but I don't like OSX as much as I thought I would.

wtmcgee
fink.sourceforge.net moreover, you can find tons of open source alternatives to every app on the mac platform. mail - mozilla thunderbird iChat - adium safari - camino/firefox iTunes - you got me there, but i'm sure you could use mPlayer or whatever it's called. photoshop - gimp office - openoffice.org also, fink.sourceforge.net is a great resource for tons of open source apps that run under x11. i'd give it some time before selling your investment, play around and see if you like it. OS X is an amazing OS, it just has a learning curve like ANY operating system does.
Digital.K
Why didnt you just buy a cheap used one to wet your feet with macs? Thats what I did, I got a used Bondi for 102 dollars, and I have enjoyed it very much. I am planning on purchasing a brand new imac soon. :)
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted April 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 11, 2004 Most things are commercial, and I am used to open source. Kinda funny you say that when the OS is built on top of Open Source technology. OS X is essentially a BSD-style OS with a lot of tools that are Open Source built right in. Is there any app you're looking for in particular? We might be able to help you find it :)

PureEdit
you can use practicly all open source apps on OS X, and I have found many more wellmade free apps for OS X then I did for windows.

aristotle-dude
Just about every major open source package is available for OS X through fink or darwin ports. Even KDE and related apps are almost completely ported over. The only things we don't have are X86 specific like Wine or WineX. There are a lot of open source programs with GUI's on www.versiontracker.com. If you look in the package contents or the about box, you will see that they are built with several Open source projects as components. We might not be quite up to the level linux has but it is pretty close. I personally don't have a problem with either open source or proprietary software. Some proprietary software does a better job at times though. PS is better than Gimp but the latter is "free" as in beer.
aldo
Ooops, wrong time to get it i think. Brand new eMacs have came out. Sell it before most of the ebay-idiots realize whats up and the price goes down. Also, please stop calling it MAC, Billthy. Do you call windows 'WINDOWS'. It's very lame. It's a Mac.
