Why Invision Forum Software?

Recommended Posts

I think they migrated over during the period when Invision actually hosted the site for a discount, maybe even free (I can't remember exactly though). Neowin, for the longest time, used VB.

Yep, and it still does (and still will for IPB2). I actually convinced the admins to try it out, and built a custom convertor for vB->IPB a while back (hence, some of the older posts have some bbcode tag not converted :p ). They tried IPB1.0 for a week, but it lacked the features necessary. That changed with IPB 1.1 and that's when they switched over to IPB for good.

I remember running some rrdtool graphs on the server and loads were, on average, a lot lower with IPB than with vB, at the time. It will be interesting with IPB2.0, because it features a lot more caching and optimizations overall.
