Linux Admin Wizard

Recommended Posts

Aight, I made a post similar to this before I am looking for a very user friendly interface to configure linux from,

I have been using WebMin but this is still on the complicated side for my endusers .. currently my boss. I have seen some wizards in Mandrake, but what I would really like to find is some type of web based configuration, my other option is to setup a vnc server and allow the end user to connect to the server, but I am not real found of this because ppl tend to play :)

The purpose behind all this is to create a personal server that works like Novell Used too, always on up and running for days, months, years with out rebooting and also to provide a very affordable solution being that most of Linux is GNU this will help cut cost as long as they can still manage it.

A great Example that I have been looking at is Axentra and there so called OEONE OS. Another Example is the ElmTree Express Server 8.0, Only problem is Axentra only sell's OEM License in 1000 Units a Month wich is well over my initial thought of 5 a month. And Express Server seems to have dropped there previous OS and are working on a new verison wich they really arent sure when it will be ready. I also looked into ClarkConnect but this will require expensive lic., like Microsoft does.

Please Help. I do like WebMin but its still confusing to the non computer savory user.

Thank you.

Perhaps someone who cannot handle webmin should not be the one using it. From what I have seen of it, it is pretty simple. I am sure that anyone who can administer a Windows server would have an easy time with webmin. Perhaps your boss would have problems with a Windows system, too.

Isn't there someone designated to handle IT issues where you work?

I am the IT Guy, the one and only handling a base of about 2000 Active Customers...so you see I need to leave some control to the end-user since I am just one guy.

And Perhaps your right about my boss but that is also close to what my enduser is too.

Yikes!

Since you are the IT department... Perhaps you could use a simpler front-end to the existing webmin interface?

Is it possible to easily modify/create-your-own html interface for "boss"-level functions, and leave the full webmin for you?

This actually sounds like a great idea I'll start googling on how to modify the webmin template, to a basic level of "Add User", "Start and ShutDown", "Check Email", and "Spam Settings" maybe some others think of them when it comes time/ Thanx for the Idea wish I would have thought of this hopefully its as easy as it sounds.

Errr... Yeah.

You can do it the easy way, like configure said. If you like pre-done easy things. :pinch:
