markwolfe Veteran Posted April 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 10, 2004 If what you are saying is that you can read Windows shares, and Windows cannot read anything on your Linux box, this is a pretty typical default. You are reading the shares using samba (which talks Microsof SMB protocol). To use samba to connect is simple and not a significant security risk. To EXPORT your folders using samba server, you will need to have the samba service running on your Linux box. This is a bigger security risk than no ability to share folders, so it is typically turned off/disabled/not intstalled. Make sure samba server is installed through the Mandrake package manager, and configure and start it. Then Windows PCs will be able to access your Linux folders. markwolfe Veteran Posted April 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 10, 2004 Ok, please be a bit more clear... You have a home network with one (or more) Windows PCs, and one Linux PC? And your Linux PC can see your Windows shares? And your Windows PC cannot see an export you did with samba server?
