semifamous
OK... This is a weird request... I realize that I can get Neowin Lite on the front page by clicking on "Use Neowin Lite" What I'd rather have is Neowin Lite as a theme option in the upper right hand corner so that it's saved in the database instead of on a cookie my computer doesn't want to remember for some dumb reason. I would like the ability to have the customized menu up there, which currently isn't possible with the lite theme. I like the idea of saving Neowin some bandwidth and getting a faster loading page, but I'm willing to make that small tradeoff for just a couple more database requests... But I don't know if anyone will actually do that. Probably not. It's probably a dumb request since there would be too many options... I mean, by using Lite now, all three categories are automatically lite. If I changed main news to "lite" as a *theme* instead, then the other two categories would not be "lite" necessarily. And then there's the issue of "Which lite?" Lite blue? Lite purple? or Lite green? Or another color entirely? There would be a lot of stuff to change, so I'm pretty sure I can't have what I want... But I figure it can't hurt to ask, right? .... Thanks for noticing me.
Wannes
neowin has 50,000 members and if you added a 1kb in the database (to remember the skin) for each then it will be a load of db space. how come your ie doesn't allow cookies? did you try this? Joel
Both settings are cookies anyway. Make sure you navigated to https://www.neowin.net and not http://neowin.net
semifamous
Ya, I've got it set up right. Usually it remembers that I'm supposed to be seeing the Lite version, but I'm in Firebird, not IE. Every week or so, I have a day where it forgets the setting every hour or three... It's annoying. I like the *idea* of having my own customized menu up in the top right and still having a smaller sized faster loading page. I didn't know that the main page theme wasn't stored in the db. Nevermind my suggestion. I thought it was saved in the db like the forum theme.
