CaKeY
What kind of crashes are you getting? Something may be misconfigured.
aldo
Try Fedora. I find mandrake pretty crashy. Also, GAIM is better for GNOME systems. You are most likley using KDE, so try 'Kopete'. It's a nice client (better than GAIM IMO) and works with all the usual networks.
mark52230
It used to crash everytime it started.. It would load the graphical server and 50% of the time nothing would happen.. But I've installed again and told it not to log in as a user automatically and that seems to have fixed it? I was also running Gnome but I've now switched to KDE to give that go (personally I find KDE to be much nicer but thats me).. Oh and I am giving Fedora a go as soon as the final of version 2 is out :)
CaKeY
Are you running Mandrake 10? The official edition could be out as early as late this week/early next.
mark52230
Yeah I'm running Mandrake 10 Community Edition and will you be able to download the official version once it's released or just buy it? On another topic, how can I stop the X server? I need to install my nvidia drivers but when I try stopping the x server using ctrl + alt + backspace Mandrake just reboots the x server and loads the logon bit. So how can I actually stop it and go into a CLI? Thanks
CaKeY
To stop X: From the terminal login as root and type: init 3 then install your drivers. When you're done type: init 5. Mandrake 10oe will probably be available on bittorrent right away while the ftp servers are being setup.

I read one thing saying monday, another person said tuesday so I tried all day tuesday and now I'm on wednesday and getting slightly impatient I don't like having not up to date software.. Anyone?
