hanxuuk
Hi I am new to mac, actually will be new to mac, as I am still waiting for my ibook to be delivered. When I bought my ibook, I bought the D-Link DWL-122 with it, thought it can connect to my how network and also I could use it in uni, however, I read a lot of comments saying this thing doesn't work properly with Mac OS, and it doesn't have driver for Panther (which will come with my ibook). After two days search I found a driver for panther on http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp...ctid=DWL%2D122# my question is: has someone tried this new driver for panther? Will it work properly? Cheers Xu Han
Pilsbury
Why didn't you just buy an AirPort card? It's a lot neater than something hanging off the side of your laptop
pizza
iBook doesn't even have a PCMCIA slot. Only an Airport slot. I guess you could use a USB adaptor, but...WHY?!?!?
hanxuuk
Because I didn't want to spend too much money on a network card, that I will only use no more than one hour a week

Pilsbury
Because I didn't want to spend too much money on a network card, that I will only use no more than one hour a week AirPort cards sell for like ?40 in the UK... It's a FAR better solution and one that you know for certain works... But, if you want to use the DLink, I'd guess following the instructions on that site and then contacting tech support if it doesn't work is the best course of action... Most people here are likely to have gone the AirPort options
Drebel
Man don't buy that POS. If you bought it take it back! I had one I ended up getting the airport card. IT SUCKS! It would crash my ibook every single chance it got..

aldo
eBay. I got one off eBay (last year), boxed and brand new for ?45. Also, ask on forums. A lot of people may have a spare Airport as they have upgraded to airport extreme. I'd pay around ?30-?40.
hanxuuk
Oh? I thought you can't plug a airport card into airport extreme slots? Which one is one the ibook g4?
Pilsbury
iBook G4 is Airport Extreme (and the original Airport is incompatible) If you know anyone in the US, they can get you one for $99, and about $10 for them to send it to you... That works out at ?61 UK, as opposed to ?80 from Apple in the UK Or here's one on eBay US for $79 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=4124572554 - which would work out about ?50 in total if he would post it to you. Pilsbury
Worth noting that your USB adaptor is only 802.11b as opposed to 802.11g of the Airport Extreme... I'm guessing you paid close to ?50 (inc P&P) for that USB thing as well?
