Joseph Zollo
For some odd reason, IE has begun to automatically open .zip files, not allowing me to select where to save the file as. I've been through the Internet Options a bunch of times but did not see anything pertaining to my problem. Can anyone help out?
smaulz
It sounds like one of the times you selected "open", the box checked "always ask for this file type" or whatever was/wasn't checked. There's a way you can fix it, but unfortunately, I can't remember what it is. Hopefully this at least gives you a starting point. :)
Dudlington
Open up explorer, and click Tools --> Folder Options. From there goto the "File Types" tab and go down to the "Zip" extension. Click "Advanced", and make sure that "Cofirm Open After Download" is ticked. I know it doesn't really sound like it should fix it, but it does. ;)

Phinal Phantasm
Okay... it has to be something we all have in common that's doing this cause mine has been too. But mine's been doing it since I installed IE6 SP1 (Beta 2)... is that the same with all of you? And yeah... it fixed mine too, thanks.. it was starting to get annoying. lol
drewster2100
well if you use winxp as the default opeener of zip files then it will open it without showing status, but if you open it with winrar or otherwise, it should show status
suprfli
jzolloxp: it took me like a week to figure that out when it happened to me a little more than a year ago. it nearly drove me insane trying to figure out how to fix it. lol. :dead: finally i found the fix that gambit suggested. didn't make sense that i needed to fix it there but it worked and that's all that mattered.
