Getting Fedora?

Recommended Posts

Well I've decided I think I wanna mess around with linux a bit so I thought I'd start off with Fedora. Well when I try and download it from http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedo...ore/1/i386/iso/ it goes really really slow. I was just wondering if there was anywhere I could dowload it faster? I know there are mirrors but I couldn't get them to work, or maybe I'm just stupid. So thanks for the help!

if its extremely slow then use bittorent. if not, then just dl it the way it is now, high demand and low funding, this is what you get. you might also want to try core 2 cause it has 2.6 kernel which would work better with an ATI card if you have one.

i was wondering wish version of fedora is the better (secure/stable) to pick for a newbie (https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=157258). The fedora test 2 is safe?

The best way is to get a Fedora CD, contact the Linux User Group in your area (Google search for LUG + <your state name>). However, I would suggest you try to get your hands on the Knoppix distribution. It is a Live CD (can be booted off from the CDROM without installing) and try that instead. Knoppix has better hardware detection and a more pleasant user interface ;)

As some one mentioned earlier .. the best way to simply try out linux is using knoppix. The live CD technique it uses will not touch your harddrive.

(Other distros probably have live cd's too .. havent checked).

Also try and upgrade to kernel 2.6 if your distro dosent come with it.
