andy_rose
tried that, but nothing changed. and besides, i have done many many fresh installs the last months, and i am using the same drivers now as before, and it is just now this has happened. have no idea why, i have configured my pc the excactly same way as before. oh well, gotta go watch the hockey final now. hoping on USA, even though they most likely will pass us(norway) on the medal count. but i just heard muhlegg didnt pass a drug control, so we might get 2 more golds:D
mtgriffith
One time after installing Powertoys for XP and running TweakUI all of my icons went to 16 color. I checked all of the usual places, even the registry. I couldn't get the to go back to high color.
StimpyX
andy_rose: Is your display running at 32bit color? The effects of alpha blending in icons don't take effect otherwise. mtgriffith: See my post in this thread to see if it helps with that problem (if you currently have it or if it occurs again). It's a slightly known bug with Tweak UI.

mtgriffith
It's in system properties. Click on the advanced tab Under performance click settings. On the visual effects tab scroll down and uncheck use drop shadows for icons on the desktop.
