Aeonandromere
BSD is a very nice OS. It will run most UNIX programs w/o a hitch, has a few different CLI commands, Slower? no not to me.
MrStaticVoid
FreeBSD is great. If it wasn't for Gentoo, I would be using FreeBSD. I did find that it was a tad slower, then again I am using a very optimized kernel shtuff. It has linux binary compatibility so it can run Linux programs. The worst thing about it, to me, is its lack of sound drivers. It pretty much has only one. Of course BSD is designed for servers, not music playing. I like its very complete Ports collection, but I didn't feel like it was as powerful as Gentoo's. Do like Nichotin says, and just try it. It is painless to install.
