Neowin access slowed to a crawl...

it's been bad indeed but as redmak and others said, the planet is working on it and for now we will have to show respect for that and be patient. :)

I know it's hard, but try not to complain guys. They guys who actually upkeep the site are getting just as upset as you. Let's show them some confidence and wish them well while they volunteer their time to fix it for all of us.

i wish that people would have this attitude toward microsoft.

It's not apf (it is installed but not enabled). The Planet techs are working on the problem at hand.

The problem atm is related to the fact that Apaches maxclients has been reduced to 260 and keepalive is set to Off. This means 'document contains no data' or really slow responses since you guys use way more than 260 apache processes. You're basically locked out of the server when the 260 limit is reached.

I increased maxclients a bit but I really don't want to mess with their settings (they may be testing or something)

We're still experiencing iowait problems even after the linux kernel upgrade a few weeks ago (it's better than before but not gone). This is probably the cause of all your problems.

It's a never ending story, I know :)

Thanks for keeping us updated (Y)

Hope this post goes through...

I was, too, experiencing this slowing down of everything from nw just now. And finally, after my meal, I guess the problem is more or less fixed. However, I noticed that buttons like "Email", "Website", "MSN" are displayed as text links and the Neowin logo isn't working (can't see it). Is this an option that can be controlled at my end or it's from nw itself?

Cheers :D,

/edit: Hmm, before I came to this thread, all the while the buttons where displayed as text. But now, suprisingly, it worked as normal!

Much better now :)

Some images have only come up after a few page reloads, but the pages themselves seem to work almost every time I try now.

I agree, but Microsoft is a for profit company (who does make tons of profit) whereas neowin's admins and mods volunteer their time to keep the server running.

Also, for those people just posting "I'm having the same problem!"; don't. They know that they are having issues, and they have also provided us with an update of what was going on. What more can you ask for?

dang it everything i've posted since around 3am today has disappeared! none of the posts are particularly earth shattering but my gosh they meant that i strung some words together that almost kinda made sense (if only to me)

What does a multi-national company have to do with a website like this, on those terms? You're not paying the admins anything, so you don't have the right to complain (not that anyone is really complaining all that much.). Whereas with MS, you're paying them money, so they better do their goddamn job or they're going to die off.

Neowin only desires support from people, whereas Microsoft just wants your money. Big difference there, if you ask me...

i suspect they are working on the apache proccess and access to the main page, it could be it has reached the max clients and taking u to a blank page to wait?
