mandrake 10 problem

Recommended Posts

ok, im trying to install mandrake 10.0 on my spare machine , trying to get something up to run mythTV. it gives me an error message every time after freezing while in the "Loading Program into Memory" phase, no matter what install i try (regular, text, vgalo, expert) it always freezes there and spins the cd rom up and down, then gives me the following

"error in exec of stage2 :-(

trying to execute '/usr/bin/runinstall2' from the installation volume,

the following fatal error occured

FATAL ERROR IN STAGE1: I/O error

I can't recover from this.

You may reboot your system."

i quoted exactly as it says

i have formatted the drive after having knoppMYTH on it with PM8 with no formatting and trying fat32 (just so something was on there, so i could format this into my swap and ext2/3) what am i doing wrong?

i have tried 2 dics both of which verify fine after burning and md5's check out ok. hopefully someone has a solution for me to try in the morning otherwise im going to use fedora core 2

Have you tried any other distros? I couldn't get Mandrake 10s installer to work in graphical mode, and even the text installer was badly designed. Fedore core 2 is going to be a much better distro IMO as it seems to be more stable. Also, you should be able to get mythTV up and running quickly with apt-get for RPM and synaptic.

Hope someone can help you with your mandrake problem, though.

Fedora 2 shall be more sable than Mandrake 10, but I did not have problems using the installer. Just had to boot from floppy and the performance was sluggish. Took 2 - 3 hours to install Mandrake 10.0 when it took only 30 - 60 minutes to install Slackware 9.1.

Sorry guys, I had no problems installing Mandrake 10 or Fedora Core 2 on my 2 pc's

the experiences that i have encountered with these 2 distros is that if your hardware on your

pc is cheap, Linux will give you a hard time. For example Motherboards with built in video will give you a hard time,

Ati video cards work great.
