markwolfe Veteran Posted April 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 14, 2004 You should be able to add any other distro to available hard drive space, and manually edit your lilo.conf to add in the new OS option. Pretty sure that if you let Xandros do it, it will take over (probably allow dual-boot with Windows) because it is geared towards the "just install it and run" crowd. daru
hard disk space is not a problem for me. Just wanted to know whether any specific steps to be taken(u answered that). also wanted to know whether i can use the default NT boot loader instead of that used by xandros. If you want to use the NT bootloader with C:\boot.ini , I know it can be done. It involves installing your Linux to an empty partition, and NOT installing the bootloader. You then use dd to directly copy data from your Linux partition into a file you place where Windows can see it (its "C:" drive is a good choice), and add an entry to boot.ini that starts executing that file. I don't have the procedure off teh top of my head, but Google will help you find it.
Nichotin
the nt bootloader is not that flexible. you will have a harder time using that, so stick with lilo/grub.
Xylene
Just get rid of Lindows.
markwolfe Veteran Posted April 15, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2004 the nt bootloader is not that flexible. you will have a harder time using that, so stick with lilo/grub. It isn't hard to add Linux into the c:\boot.ini file. I use this method at work, because it is "stealth", as anyone booting sees the normal Win2k options, plus one Win2k option that sounds like it loads no drivers (my Linux boot). And, for the Original Poster, remember you can use the same Linux Swap partition for all of your various Linux installs. No need to create a new one for each. It just wastes space. Not sure if you knew this or not.
