Chadwick
I have a pentium II 450mhz, about 30 gb hd space, 128mb ram, cdrw, etc. on an older computer. I have xp pro installed, but the system is overrun with adware and spam and all the windows-prone crap. I want to get into linux, and i would like suggestions. It will most likely be used for: 1. hosting my printer on my wireless network, an hp deskjet 3650 2. file storage 3. anything else i think would be cool to try out on a linux box. what linux do you guys suggest? markwolfe Veteran Posted April 15, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2004 Any distro of Linux will work just fine. You can even have a decent GUI. Alternatives to Linux (like an other Unix variant, BSD) might also be of interest. But, Linux may be a better choice if you also want to use this as a workstation of sorts. You will share out your printer with a Samba server to your Windows PCs. Samba will also be used to share out a folder for file storage (or you can use FTP if you prefer). Find distros at http://www.distrowatch.com and download from http://www.linuxiso.org Samba is REALLY easy to setup with a graphical setup (I use Fedora). If you want, take a look over their website (at least I *think* that this is their official site  ) http://samba.org
