what apps under wine would i want to install

And let me make the counterpoint that you should not use wine.

It is there, and it *does* work. But there are lots of Linux-native alternatives that you should use instead (where possible).

If there is a particular function that doesn't have a suitable Linux app, and you have a Windows one that works in wine, then go ahead.

But wine should not be your first choice. (plus, I am not sure if the wine team has gotten around to proper virus & worm support, like you have in Windows) ;)

 I think I am lost! LOL

If you have purchased Photoshop, I think it can work under wine.... But I am pretty sure that it will work with Codeweaver's CrossOver Office program (sort of a 'super' wine). CrossOver Office costs money, but much less than Photoshop set you back! ;)

If you want a free (as in "free beer" or in "freedom") solution, I use gimp for most of my photo & graphics work.
