how to get sound in linux to work in Virtual PC?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.. so I'm trying out Linspire (yea yea) and I've installed it under MS Virtual PC 2004. Anyways, the emulated sound card doesnt work (Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA Plug and Play).. does anyone know how to get it to work?

I know absolutely nothing about linux so please if you're going to help, write out step by step instructions.

thanks!

All I can say is that when used as a virtual PC, your Linux doesn't really get to see the hardware, just what the virtual software tells it. Maybe they aren't working well together. :( SB 16 is pretty standard.

Hope this bump gets others who are more experienced to see and help!

i have virtual pc 5.1 and it doesnt find anything for the sound card when i install linux

to make sure thats it not that you just dont have the drivers installed

log in as root

open console type "lspci -v"

see if it says anything about audio/sound card

heh? why is it funny? MS VPC 2004 doesn't "officially" support linux but they do install and work. this is just a tiny thing and i was hoping to fix it. I'm not going to change the VPC software I use because of it.

Mark - thanks I'll try that
