kongit
My latest linux experiment is to install gentoo on the same partition as my slackware install while slackware is running. After I get gentoo installed I can then either delete slackware or just have too on the same partition. Right now I am typing this in slackware and the stage 1 bootstrap is going on in console 2. wish me luck :D
kLUMSY bOT
sounds messy but good luck!
kjordan2001
That's not really a good way to do it since you'll have directories and files innermixed.
kongit
That's not really a good way to do it since you'll have directories and files innermixed. It is being done in its own chroot. Same principle involved when you install gentoo through knoppix, or another distro to a seperate partition. Except I am doing it to the same partition with its root a step above the main root. /gentoo is the chroot.

I'd like to see you compile and insert a stage 1 gentoo install into the filesystem of a currently running slackware install and basically "morph" your slack to gentoo without rebooting. That would be awefully tricky. ;)

I haven't rebooted yet. :)

You'd have to chroot each time to get into Gentoo and you can't add it to Grub or anything really I guess. Whatever suits you though.

kongit
Now I am in my Gentoo stage 1 install. It actually was harder than I thought. I had to pull out a livecd to delete the slackware files and move the gentoo ones in place. But it was worth it. I fired it up and went right into gnome 2.6 on xorg. :p
