Botiemaster
Sup dudes new guy here. hope to spend many years here. And to kick things off, i have a problem i need help with. And what better problem to have than windows xp shutdown prob? but enjoy it while you can though i rarely need help. :D I figure some of you need a good challenge anyway. For the record, i have windows XP home edition. upgraded from ME. PC plenty powerful enough, etc, etc. When i installed it, it worked fine. Only after a few installs of software this problem started. The best i can come up with is maybe a problem with norton system works 2002. I installed goback3 from it. i fear it is the problem....don't know why though does what system restore does is all. I do know it appears XP's system restore is still on. Could both being on cause a prob? Well here it goes. it's a funny one i've looked everywhere and nothing describes my problem. When i click the restart or shutdown button in the start menu, it will save, and get to the shutting down screen. Does this real quick. takes maybe 3 to 6 seconds. When i get to the shutting down screen, it stops there and sits. Mouse pointer can be moved. After 10 seconds, it stops. Mouse pointer stops moving. When this happens, a sound comes up. You know, that sound of a PC restarting or shutting down. I think it's related to the screen shutting down. This sound tells me the PC has restarted/shutdown. I guess it's the same for you guys. Anyway, i can only guess it means it shutdown alright. But my PC does not powerdown. It stays on. And the monitor is frozed up with the XP shutting down screen. It will do this when i click both restart and shutdown. I then hold down the power button for 5 seconds to shut it off. When i power it back on, everything is fine as if it shutdown alright. Which is why i think it shutdown fine. But it just doesn't powerdown. As for restarting, i don't know it's not even suppose to powerdown for restarts.(as in it should restart fine but it doesn't it acts just like as if i clicked shutdown) heh, alrighty then. Told y'all it was a strange one. Anybody got any idea whatsoever what's going on? Need more info? oh and btw, i had to update one of my modems. i heard unsigned drivers could cause it. I got signed drivers for my modem. When i clicked restart(cause it asked me too), OMG it did! I thought that fixed my prob. i was so happy. 30 minutes later i shutdown the thing and it gained that problem back. Doh.
