username
Is it possible to filter out "WFT" in the thread titles? Neowin is a great community and seeing thread after thread with that in it really cheapens it for me, and seeing the threads that are just titles "WTF" drives me crazy... I just get tired of seeing some immature kid putting "WTF" because they are not smart enough to think of real words or a decent title for a thread that actually matches its subject... Anyways, my little question / problem / suggestion.
kongit
WTF? (jk) Anyway I think that titles should be more descriptive, but just filtering out WTF won't help that issue much.
giga Veteran Posted April 23, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 23, 2004 I see very few titles named wtf so it isnt that big deal of an issue. But yeah it is kind of immature to do that.
KC
I hardly ever see titles that have "WTF" in it.
Tropical Dream
I agree... some titles are... "I have a problem" "can't solve this" "WTF" "help me please" "read this" i find that immature too... just write a topic title that match the subject
bangbang023 Veteran Posted April 23, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 23, 2004 Titling has always been a problem here. Just look at Bulletin Board Support. In the invision subforum, almost every other of the first weeks threads is titled "IPDynamic Lite" with no further description. It is annoying, I won't deny it, but you can't really do much about it except for continually asking people to clarify themselves more.
Wannes
good point bangbang, its annoying especially for the people who do support. :(

Thats what I was going to say, the only way to combat this is to enforce a new way of acceptable titles at Neowin which would only work if all the moderators agreed this was something worth moderating. Thankfully the forums are split down enough so that even topics that at first glance don't seem to have a clear title actually 'fit'in the forum its posted in ie: Help me! in the Network troubleshooting forum will no doubt be a request for help for a network related issue. I agree we may have to enforce a no WTF in titles, because well that just isn't needed as others and the thread starter already commented.

If you want to talk about something that is drastically removed from the topic of a forum, please take it to General Discussion. General Discussion was set up and designed for members to discuss issues not related to a specific forum section. We welcome most general conversation in the General Discussion, but discourage it from other forums.Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention. I'm for it.

Steffan
maybe there should be example of what's a good title and what's not a good title.

user_plex
I agree that this kind of titles aren't very good. Expressing anger in post won't get much help as those who ask politely. *in mischief* Maybe the author was just try to say Woot! That's Fun! (joking. hehe :p ) Cheers :D, user_plex

BananaMan
I assure you this problem is not just isolated to neowin. I work at TXU and I help manage an e-mail inbox used by most of the call centre staff when they have special queries that require specialists from our team. Anyway, you need to see some screenshots of the garbage subject titles. 200+ e-mails with the subject "Problem". Or my favorite, instead of not specifying the problem in the subject, they put the entire body of the e-mail in the subject and leave the body of the e-mail empty. Anyway, little work-rant aside, I agree that enforcing more intelligent titles in neowin would be great. Kudos to username for bringing this up.
