fukachu
hey all, i've never updated a version of linux b4 only used what was on cds. so i've never delved very far into it. after trying mandrake 10 community i was very impressed. im wanting to update mandrake to latest everything. my main reason for this is because nautulus (spelling?) gives me error after error if i try and run gnome. so i wanted to install gnome 2.6. all errors had different numbers and i tried to find these errors on bugzilla but im not familiar with the site and got me no where i went to the gnome website and got a list of all the packages. i then downloaded them from mandrake rpm mirror and tried to install. many would not install because they needed something else. so getting annoyed as it had taken a lot of time for me to compare list and list to get them all i gave up on that. i gave the update mandrake a go.. unfortunately im on dial up and when it started download some .cv file about 10% into it my net dropped. i tried it again after starting my internet up and it wouldnt work again and it just says my system is up to date. it obviously isnt. is there some way i can update my system that works? without having to manually install *.rpm after *.rpm?? how can i get my mandrake update thing working?? i really want to use gnome but i cant because of these errors which i got right away on a fresh install on it maybe 2 weeks ago. btw im a n00b with linux especially with commands etc so please try to explain as simply as possible. cheers Fizical

kemical
is there a file that stores a list of applications youve downloaded, or is there a temp dir all files get placed in, you could try removing those so the urmpin app will redownload those particular applications
MulletRobZ
Traduction vers l'anglais: I had too many problems when I tested MandrakeLinux 10.0. When DrakX installed the packages via CD-ROM, the process was very slow. I could not use the NVidia drivers in Mandrake 10.0 and when I instaleld some updates, I could no longer operate my system properly. I recommend trying Fedora or Slackware instead. fukachu
i have not tried fedora but i didnt like slackware. not that it was too hard cause it seemed fine to me.. didnt last long on my box. fedora i would consider when its final. im not keen on downloading for over 3 weeks to get it. by that time it will be out of date. im on dial up and not able to download that fast. i got a mate who had some space on his download cap to get mandrake on cable download. thanx kemical for your replies.. i will check it out but i really wouldnt know where to look for temp files :(
IrcSystmzz
I have seen on another forum I visit that the Mandrake 10 Community updates are being restructured to the final edition that just came out . But I will tell you this the last time I updated the community edition it was around 750mb all updates in one shot once I found a ftp site that had them .
