BGEstrada
Hey everybody, I have an inquiry. If searched the internet looking for some distributions of linux for an old PowerPC that I just inherited. I come from a Windows/PC world, so I don't know much about linux or macintosh. All I know is that it says "6400/180" on the case. I was thinking I want to install some sort of linux on it that I can use for general things like email/internet. Heck, I'd even be satisfied simply with a console-based environment to practice unix commands and shell-scripting. But I haven't found any distributions that would be easy to install and be able to support such old hardware. I've heard about yellowdog and MkLinux, but I wouldn't know where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Perhaps a walkthru or tutorial of some sort... Thanks. PS. I'd probably have to spend a little bit of money for like an old 10Mbps ethernet card. What kind should I get based on the support of the OS/Mobo?
ChrisArr
I don't know much about Linux on Macs, but as far as I know, you may want to start here: http://penguinppc.org/
