Wannes
some members rather be annoying and start flaming forums. it's not neowin's fault and they do try their best to stop it.
Hawkeye
hi i have been trying to find the first post but quite a few posts are gone i can only get tohttps://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2 that the closest but closed https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=6 this one is still opened but as i was looking around i found that neowin didnt used to have much flamming like today what happened Wow, are you doing a history project on Neowin? :o  That's pretty cool. Yeah, those are some OLD thread for sure! I like how Neobond is asking for hardware help on Windows XP RC1! Really puts things into a time perspective that way! Anyway, regarding your noticing that Neowin used to have much less flaming, yes, you are right, it did. But you have to remember that the longer a forum exists, the more members will register, and the wider variety of members will register from many different ages, genders, cultures, countries, races, and political and religious beliefs. This has a direct relationship with the high probability of flaming. For example, if you and your best group of friends go somewhere and hang out, it's very likely that there won't be any arguments and no "flaming" between you. However, if you were to be randomly grouped with the same number of people just randomly picked from the globe who happened to speak English and hung out with them, the probability of disagreement and "flaming" increases greatly, and will continue to increase as you add more randomly selected people to that group. Of course, in that group, there can be many people who get along without any problems, and that is true in any large forum (including Neowin) as well. It's not really that Neowin has had much more flaming over time, it's actually more correct to say that Neowin has grown in popularity and number of its members over time, which is mathematically almost guaranteed to bring in more flaming. Don't worry about it too much. A little flaming is healthy. We don't live in a perfect world, so people do get into heated conversations sometimes. Anytime it becomes problematic, it will be controlled by those in charge?police in the real world, Mods and Admins on an Internet forum.

eevoo
^ That is not always true. And The first post is gone, it was a test post that is made by the board software when you install IPB, and as Neowin used other board software before they even installed IPB it would not of been the actual first post ever at Neowin. Chode
,Apr 25 2004, 15:03] everyone would love to be a mod. I wouldn't. I'd most likely end up misusing my powers before been confronted many years later by my son trying to coax me back from the dark side, before slicing off his hand, leading eventually to me destroying the emporer and making the universe a safe place again. Chris Allen Veteran Posted April 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2004 A: read the forum rules in descriptive titling for a thread :p B: as far as I know eevoo cleared up the first post issue. C: I wonder what the first Neowin thread was though, posted by the first outside member other than the staff. That would be more of an 'official' first post I would think. Steven P. Administrators Posted April 26, 2004 Administrators Share Posted April 26, 2004 There was 'less flaming' because there were very few members on neowin. and to be perfectly honest I still think Neowin rocks at how people are helped so quickly. Spammers/Trollers and Flamers are everywhere you go, and Neowins been around a while now so even an idiot can find it ;)
