blik
Can someone please tell me how to get my internet working in Fedora Core 1, I have a Speedtouch 330 USB Modem. I have searched the net for how to get it up and running, but the guides are far too complicated for a relative newcomer to linux. Can someone who has acctually done this please reply, and please dont link to guides, because ive probably read them. Thanks.
markwolfe Veteran Posted April 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2004 Ok, tell us a bit about what you have tried, and the faults (if any) that occured... And, could you post the output of a /sbin/ifconfig command, it might help, too.
blik
I have tried this guide Speedtouch 330. I followed it word for word. When I try to connect the lights flash and the "ADSL" light goes orange (from green), after about 25 seconds it says No such device.
markwolfe Veteran Posted April 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 26, 2004 I don't know how much I can help you... :( Did you set your vpi and vci properly for your country of residence? Were there any faults generated during any of the copy or edit processes? Also, not sure, but I think that this device may show up as a ppp device when you do an /sbin/ifconfig. Try doing that and post what it shows here in the thread.
blik
Here is the output of /sbin/ifconfig and what happens when I run the script that I made in the guide posted above. markwolfe Veteran Posted April 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 26, 2004 I don't use any sort of dial-up, but shouldn't ppp0 appear on your list when you do /sbin/ifconfig ??? I guess the best thing is to google a bit more, while hoping someone with ADSL experience can step in and figure out what is holding you up.... Tek
I tried to get that modem working once for a friend a couple of years ago. I gave up after about a month.

blik
Thanks for the replies, I have found an excelent guide at speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net which takes all the hard work out for all us n00bs. After formatting and reinstalling Fedora, I followed the simple guide and now my internet is working :)
markwolfe Veteran Posted April 28, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 28, 2004  Glad you were able to get it working! Some hardware requires extra effort to get working in Linux, but support keeps getting better (every day! :woot: ) I don't think it will be long before installing Linux is easier than Windows. It already is easier, in some respects!
