Gary_Player
Do you mac users out there use anti-virus software? If so what kind and if not why not?
RadishTM Veteran Posted April 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 26, 2004 I use NAV on my iMac. Radish?
aristotle-dude
Not really. I have Virex on my eMac but I never use it. There currently are no OS X viruses in the wild. The only thing you should be concerned about is spreading Office macro viruses if you use office for mac and exchange docs with pc users.

BTallack
I don't have one. Don't really see the need for one. Then again, I don't run one on my PCs either. I just use common sense. So far it hasn't failed me. Maybe I could market that. Common Sense Anti-Virus. It would just be a book saying what not to do. hmm...

the evn show
If a Windows user sends me a virus it's not going to effect any of my computers: they don't run Windows, and most aren't even x86 processors. I don't worry about trogan horse files because 99% of the files I come in contact with are ones that: 1) I made myself 2) are plain text 3) cannot contain executable code almost all the executable files on my system are from original install media, or files I have created myself. The ones that aren't (vlc, ipod viewer, stuff from software update) are from sources I trust like apple or sourceforge. Then there is the fact that there are no os x viruses, and that one proof of concept trojan horse that did nothing (really, it's going to be fixed in 10.3.4 i imagine). How can a virus scanner detect viruses when there are no viruses to detect? I just don't have the kind of computers, software, or network that have an issue with viruses so I don't waste me time with virus scanners when I could use that time to protect myself from data loss caused by fire, theft, or hardware failure: things that are much more probable (maybe even likely) than a virus wiping out my drives.
