Powerless
I downloaded firefox 0.8 [firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz] I extracted to my /home/username I clicked Firefox and well up popped firefox all working as far as I could see. I then created a Link to application... entered the details, nice little icon and can now run firefox from clicking the link on my desktop. Is that all that is needed, is Firefox installed? Windows memory  Being familiar with Windows Installs I was expecting an automatic installment of icons etc on the Menu...Whilst I have created all this since...For possible installs of future applications what should I be looking at to give me control over what goes where? If i could do that with my firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz then how could I do it? Hope the above makes sense. On Mandrake 10.
LordHatrus
Yes. Technically you can run firefox without 'installing' anything... (If I remember) It will just run from a folder full of binaries but, you may want to associate *.htm and *.html with firefox.

markwolfe Veteran Posted April 27, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 27, 2004 That was TOO easy!! While it is technically not easier than a typical Windows program install, I really like the freedom that I have in Linux. You set it up they way that *you* prefer.
